End of Semester Reading

Let us take a moment to reflect on the talented voices we’ve heard during the various events this semester, hosted by the Roosevelt Reading Series:

Amelia Gray, with her brilliant oddness.

Billy Lombardo, realist extraordinaire.

China Miéville, who taught us the metaphorical magic of cephalopods.

Kathleen Rooney, her poetry an exploration into mustached milieus.

The graduate reading, where we said goodbye to five graduating MFAers.

And lastly, upcoming this Friday, the End of Semester reading, which will be a perfect opportunity to celebrate a hard-fought semester, and hear some great writing.

The Roosevelt Reading Series is proud to announce its last reading of the semester, featuring no fewer than eight current MFA candidates. The featured readers will be sharing the newest of the new, the freshest of the fresh, served up at the always-hip Book Cellar!

The reading will be held at the Book Cellar, Friday, December 7, starting at 7pm and likely ending around 8. Free and open to the public, invite your friends!

Roosevelt University will be hosting a series of lectures on Friday, September 28, in celebration of social media week. RU MFA alum Katie Leimkuehler will be co-hosting a panel, titled Be A Social Media Rockstar, which will help you learn the skills to launch your social media path to success!

Christina Kloess Wins Audience Favorite at Chicago Literary Guild Showcase!

The final credits of the school year approach—the narrative reaches its climactic end—and in the year’s third act, we are reminded that there is nothing more satisfying than a story of success.

Roosevelt MFAer Christina Kloess was recently nominated to represent our school in the Chicago Literary Guild’s Teaching Artist/Multi-University Student Showcase, and was chosen crowd favorite after her reading! A city-wide event, this annual reading was created to showcase great writers in local writing programs, and develop relationships between writers and their communities.

Christina says the best part about the experience was getting to hear the sort of work other writers in other programs are producing, and feeling the sense of community between local programs.

While the crowd selection was more official than using a clap-o-meter, it would have been off the charts after her reading!

Join me in congratulating Christina on all of her success!  

Oyez Review Volume 39 Reading!

Hear ye, Hear ye! Gather ‘round for a reading of the latest and greatest from the good folks at the Oyez Review. Volume 39, masterfully put together by the Fall interns, is fresh from the printer and full of great writing!

The highlight of Thursday’s event will be Timothy Moore, reading his short story, ‘The Woman with Yellow Fingernails.’ Other pieces of fiction, as well as poetry and creative nonfiction will be on the agenda. There is something for everyone in this year’s volume!

The reading will be held in the Gage Gallery, Thursday, March 29, at 5pm. Doors open at 4:30. Get there early to make sure you get a seat!
